EMDR and Trauma Therapy

Treating Trauma with EMDR

EMDR Therapy in Salt Lake City

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (better known as EMDR) is a type of therapy that has been shown to reduce the impact of traumatic memories, oftentimes without the need to “tell the whole story” to your therapist. According to the highly-regarded EMDR International Association, decades of research supports positive outcomes demonstrating that EMDR therapy is helpful for anxiety, depression, and distressing life events. Amazingly, EMDR has demonstrated better effects in treating trauma than Prozac (Van der Kolk et al., 2007).

EMDR involves a structured and thoughtful approach where the therapist guides the person through recalling distressing memories while simultaneously introducing bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or taps. This process aims to facilitate the brain's natural ability to process memories, lessening the emotional charge and associated negative feelings linked to the memory. EMDR consists of several different phases, including preparation, assessment, desensitization, and reevaluation, all tailored to the individual's needs.

Whether you’re bothered by events that were “big” or “small,” let’s explore the possibility of using EMDR together to help you find a new sense of inner calm and freedom. To read more about how you and I could use EMDR therapy in Salt Lake City, check out my blog.

About my EMDR Training

According to EMDRIA — the EMDR International Association — an EMDR practitioner should have taken at least a 50-hour EMDRIA-approved basic training.

I completed my 50-hour EMDR training in 2021 in an EMDRIA-approved training and have been practicing EMDR in Salt Lake City since 2021.
